Wupatki and Flagstaff

Posted on December 12, 2024February 21, 2025

On our way from Kayenta to Flagstaff, we made a stop at Wupatki National Monument, and it turned out to be a fascinating detour. The park is home to a collection of well-preserved ancient pueblos, offering a glimpse into the lives of the Ancestral Puebloans who once thrived in this harsh desert landscape. Walking among the red sandstone ruins, we saw intricate stonework, multi-room dwellings, and even a large circular ball court—evidence of a once-thriving community. The combination of history, culture, and stunning desert scenery made Wupatki a truly memorable stop along our journey south.

In Flagstaff, we enjoyed a delicious meal at El Tapatio #6, a welcoming Mexican family restaurant known for its flavorful dishes and warm atmosphere. The food was fantastic, with generous portions and authentic flavors that really hit the spot after a long day on the road.

After dinner, we took some time to explore downtown Flagstaff, strolling through its charming streets lined with historic buildings, unique shops, and cozy cafes. The crisp mountain air and lively yet laid-back atmosphere made for a relaxing evening, perfectly wrapping up our time in this vibrant city.

For the night, we stayed at Little America Hotel, a charming and cozy place that added a touch of holiday magic to our trip. The entire property was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with countless twinkling lights illuminating the trees, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. It felt like stepping into a winter wonderland, making our stay even more special. After a long day of traveling and exploring, it was the perfect place to relax and unwind.
